Emily’s Story

Hi! I’m Emily, RDN.

I work alongside the Simply Nourished team offering 1:1 mentorship + personalized meal planning, developing content + recipes for programs, and keeping the wheels in motion for many of the day-to-day tasks of the practice. It is a joy to be part of a nutrition team that truly cares for women from cell to soul!

The nourishing + celebratory value of food was richly highlighted during my childhood. My dad was an incredible cook [I still prefer his meals even now] and my mom was a vegetarian, constantly encouraging whole, unprocessed foods. I ran cross country in high school + college, where I learned [and experienced!] the power of food to strengthen my body for optimal performance.

While pursuing a pre-med degree, my robust relationship with food began to waver. Caught up in the hype of college culture, I began to believe the message each woman is fed throughout her life: food is an enemy. I became hyper-aware of my body and started over-exercising, restricting and bingeing. My relationship with food became disordered for the first time, leading to digestive distress, performance issues and a feeling as though my body was failing me.

After college, I served many chronically ill patients while working in a busy critical care unit. I witnessed firsthand the power of food to not only treat, but to prevent many of the illnesses I saw over the course of several years. As my own relationship with food + my body was healing, a deep desire rose within me to teach others about the importance of food + lifestyle habits as a means toward sustainable, life-promoting health.

Through education, reflection and loads of self-compassion, my relationship with food has been restored + set free. I now use food as a way to love my body, rather than punish it; drawing on my knowledge of the nourishing, strengthening, healing + protective power of food.

My nutrition experience flows into the way I guide women through their own journey toward food freedom. I offer gentle + targeted guidance to help women love, nurture and protect their bodies with the foods they eat and the rituals they practice. It is my belief that cultivating a rich relationship with food is central to vibrant health!
